EXPERIENCE
1990 2003 Solution Link, Consulting Company
Houston, Texas
OWNER
Operated a small engineering consulting company that provided system design services to clients mostly in the Houston area. I sold the services to companies that I was known by and to new ones that I located and performed work for. The range of services included System Specifications, Hardware design, Software for both embedded control devices and office functions. This business was successful and rewarding due to the personal level of service and commitment. At various times I had several Sub contractors on staff to meet the peak business level.
1992 - 1999 Uson L.P.
Houston, Texas
ENGINEERING MANAGER
Uson is a long established company that builds testing systems used by other manufactures to test their products that must not leak air, water, or other media. Uson is a successful small company and I was responsible for several phases of the operation of the company. I oversaw the development of new products through the use of a small internal staff and by use of an array of consulting companies. I generate the technical plans for each product both hardware and software that is developed. I also supervised the Test, System, and Cad groups. I was the Quality Control manager and had the responsibility to direct the successful effort to achieve ISO 9001 certification on our first audit.
1989 1990 DANIEL INDUSTRIES, INC (Electronics Div.)
Houston, Texas
MANAGER OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
I joined Daniel electronics to restart their R & D effort that had not been operating for several years. I recruited, hired, trained, and evaluated all the new engineering personnel. I prepared budgets, schedules, product definitions and cost studies for several new products and upgrade of existing products that were falling behind the market place. These included devices to meter the flow of natural gas, measure gas quality, and control the loading of product on and off trucks. An important part of my job was to maintained engineering liaison with the manufacturing and marketing departments. The division sales were about 25 million and the engineering budget was about 8% of gross sales.
1980 1989 HALLIBURTON LOGGING SERVICES (Welex)
Houston, Texas
MANAGER OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING
I Organized and staffed new department to centralize control of computer resources and programming staff. We went from a collection of disconnected hardware and technical resources to an efficient unit. Control was expanded to include IBM systems, manufacturing data collection, seven large minicomputer systems of various brands, and twenty-five engineering workstations used for Cad design. We installed local area network and connect all the computer resources to Halliburton's wide area network. I oversaw the operation of voice and data communication system for our 2000 employee site. My software development group was responsible for developing and maintaining both scientific software for post-logging analysis and for software used for manufacturing and business operations. I was responsible for a operational budget of about 4 million dollars. I represented Welex on the Halliburton Computing group, which meet to coordinate the communication and computing services for all the Halliburton Companies.
GROUP MANAGER: Downhole Tool Design
When the Development and Product engineering groups were merged was given the responsibility to manage the electronic development activities from both groups. I Managed the development group of 80 electronic technical employees divided into five sections. We were responsible for the design of new subsurface equipment that our company used to map the formations in oil well exploration. I set the design goals and budgets for each of the sections. I interfaced with both our field operation groups and with personnel working for the Oil companies that purchased our services. I presented our Annual budget at the corporate budget meeting. I made many presentations on our engineering developments to customers that marketing and sales arranged.
GROUP MANAGER: Electrical Product Engineering
I moved up to manage and facilitated the design and improvement of electronics for surface and subsurface use. I managed four sections containing forty five engineers and technicians.
SECTION SUPERVISOR: Surface and Subsurface Product Engineering
I joined Welex as Supervisor in the newly formed Product Engineering Group. Our charter was to complement the operation of a separate Development Group that would produce prototype designs, which we transformed into reliable operating designs that would be manufactured. I supervised fourteen technical employees in the design of both recording equipment on the surface and later in the design of resistance measuring downhole sensors systems.
